Der Geschmack und das Aroma des Kesselgulaschs wird vom Eisen verfeinert. Dies erfordert allerdings etwas mehr Pflege als Emaille- oder Edelstahlkessel. Der Eisenkessel muss nach jedem Gebrauch gereinigt (mit Sand) und dann mit Speiseöl leicht eingerieben werden.
Für säurehaltige Lebensmittel nicht geeignet.
Die Kessel können mit einem Dreibein oder einem Schwenkgrill direkt über das Feuer gehängt werden.
